Back in 1931, Granddaddy DeKoven King bought a small rural property on Virginia Beach Boulevard in the area that is now known as Towne Center Virginia Beach. One of eight homes on the road that stretched from Ballentine Blvd in Norfolk to Cypress Ave at the Oceanfront, he began to grow cutflowers for the local market. He and his wife Margaret (Granny) opened a flower shop on the property and another in the grand Cavalier Hotel on Atlantic Avenue.
One day, Granny King read an article about the new California Giant petunias and one thing led to the next, and one greenhouse led to several, and then to as many as 23 greenhouses, raising seasonal bedding plants, Easter lilies, Christmas pointsettas, and of course, petunias.
The flower shop was busy serving customers from all over the Beach, Chesapeake and Norfolk, and soon the children were arranging flowers and driving deliveries. Son Cassius (Cash) King and his sister Aileen took over the business in 1971 and it became a family affair, with the next generation learning about carnations, corsages and how to make a satin bow.
Now run by granddaughter Cindy King Laufer, Flowers By King's still serves our local community with professional knowledge, experience and pride. Our deep floral heritage and commitment to exceptional service makes us the florist of choice for generations.
We are happy to serve you anyway we can!
Let Flowers by Kings be your first choice for flowers.
